UPDATE
Started in a single-room by three Japanese men in the year 1933 under the name of Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory, Canon has come a long way today. It all began with the phantom prototype camera called the ‘Kwanon’. At that time, Germany was considered to be the leader in camera production. German cameras were extremely expensive. So, Goro Yoshida, along with two others tried to produce a 35mm rangefinder camera at a cheaper price and came up with “Kwanon’.
However, at that time, one of the problems faced by the company was that it did not have a lens of its own. So, it decided to tie up with Nippon Kogaku Kogyo (who was to become the founder of Nikon) and acquire lenses from them. With the use of these lenses, Canon came up with its first commercial camera called the “Hansa Canon” in 1936 which became a hit. However, the company still had to go through hardships due to the War.
After the war, the company officially adopted the name “Canon” as its name. Up till then, the lens was under a different name, the camera had a different name and the company had a different name. So, in order to unify all these three, Canon came into existence on September 15, 1947. Slowly the company started to expand, and many historical cameras were created such as the Serenar 50mm f/1.8 lens in 1951, Canonet in 1961, AF35M (Autoboy) in 1979 and the EOS 650 in 1987.
The first Canon digital camera was the PowerShot 600 in 1996. Then, after making several advances in digital technology, Canon launched the EOS D2000 digital SLR camera in 1998 for professionals. In addition, the XL1 digital video camera was introduced. Due to its superior functionality and reliability, the XL1 became the official digital video camcorder of the NASA.
In order to provide the market with a cost effective camera along with superior functionality and performance, Canon introduced the EOS D60 in 2002 and the EOS 10D in 2003. These two cameras made Canon the market leader in digital technology. Then, the EOS Kiss Digital was introduced in 2003, which became a big success.
Today, Canon has introduced several digital camcorders. Starting with the FV30 and the FV200KIT in 2002, Canon went onto launch the FV M1 and the IXY DV M2 in 2003 in the mid range segment. As the company progresses, Canon continue to strive to provide its consumers with better and better technology at the lowest price possible. They have been known as a choice of the pros for many years in the world of photography but now with a broad line of products Canon is firmly positioned in the consumer market as well.

UPDATE FOR : Digital Camera Wholesale
Digital cameras are available in several price ranges today. They can be purchased wholesale as well as retail. Whether your budget is a mere $30 or $300, you are sure to find a camera within the given price range. However, you might have to compromise on some of the features that you will get in the deal.
So, what do you do if you want the best at the cheapest price? The answer to this question lies within the World Wide Web. You do not have to make telephone calls to sales persons or go camera hunting in many shops…simply sit at home and click away !
There are cameras which are available at wholesale prices. However, the trick here is that these are not so easily available because you need to take a pre-requisite number of cameras before you can get them at such a bargain. Or there might be older models which companies are trying to sell off at wholesale prices. Hence, it is possible to get a bargain but you really need to shop hard before you strike gold.
What you can do however, is to access the Internet for services known as ‘price comparison engines’. These are basically web sites which search the Net for the best prices available on digital cameras from different suppliers. So instead of visiting hundred different sites consisting of different suppliers, you can choose to visit ten price comparison engines and get a good estimate for the digital camera that you need.
But this is only possible if you have a basic idea of what you are looking for in a digital camera. You should at least know the make, if not the model, so that the research can be done properly. This will help you to narrow down your search drastically and thus save you a lot of time and effort.
Some of the well-known web sites which sell wholesale digital cameras include Ebay.com and Amazon.com. Both these sites have a huge collection of digital cameras, and you are sure to find what you are looking for at a cheap price. These sites also deal in digital camera accessories; hence you can probably find that extra memory card on Amazon or Ebay and get yourself a good packaged deal.
It is very important that you keep in mind the fact that the wholesaler from whom you purchase your camera is authentic and can be relied upon. Thus, do not get lured by attractive deals at wholesale prices before checking this out.

UPDATE FOR : Hp Camera
HP has started making digital cameras only recently. However, the firm provides a one-stop-shop for all digital facilities. The company has made a large number of innovations over the years. Let us view the interesting history of this company.
Started by two Stanford University graduates, Dave Packard and Bill Hewlett in 1938 in a rented garage with a mere working capital of $538 - Hewlett Packard is a multi-billion dollar company today. With net revenues of $7.2 billion in the year 2004 and over 28,000 employees all across the globe, HP has come a long, long way.
Both Hewlett and Packard being students of electrical engineering, started with the invention of a resistance-capacity audio oscillator. They continued to make similar test and measurement products, and by 1942, had constructed a 10,000 square foot company- owned building in Palo Alto, California. One interesting fact to note is that they decided the name of the company on the basis of just tossing a coin!
In the 50's, the company continued to grow dynamically, making major advances in microwave instrumentation and in the year 1962, Hewlett Packard appeared in Forbes Top 500 List of Companies for the first time at number 460.
After this, there was no turning back for HP. The company went from strength to strength, constantly innovating new technologies - whether it was in the field of medicine, laser technology, computers, printers, microprocessors etc.
After HP entered the consumer market with its computers and allied products, it also recently decided to introduce its own digital cameras as well. In fact, in order to make its mark in digital cameras, HP has invested nearly $300 million in its consumer advertising for the same. This is the largest investment made by the company in advertising till today. HP believes that digital photography is a booming business and is slowly going to take over the film camera market. The trend to purchase digital cameras is spreading all across Asia and Europe - and HP does not want to be left behind.
Hence HP says that it is the only company which is providing a one-stop-shop for all digital camera users. You can buy a HP digital camera, take snaps, and then load them onto your HP computer and take printouts (you guessed it) from your HP printer as well. And even the paper and ink used in your printer, is yes, HP again.
HP has yet to make a niche for itself in digital cameras, however, with its current aggressive marketing strategies and brand image, it is most likely that the company will surpass all market expectations as it has done in the past already. Here is a list of the latest cameras by HP:
HP Photosmart 945 digital camera series and HP Photosmart R707 digital camera series: The camera for all users with an optional dock, can be used for slideshows as well.
HP Photosmart R717 Digital Camera series: Slightly advanced series with digital zoom and Real Life technology.
HP Photosmart R607 digital camera series: With 4.1 nega pixels, this series is good for home use.
HP Photosmart M407 digital camera series, HP Photosmart M417 Digital Camera series, HP Photosmart M307 digital camera series, HP Photosmart M22 Digital Camera series and HP Photosmart 435 digital camera series: all these series have 3-5 mega pixels and are nice and cheap for users.

UPDATE FOR : Fuji Camera
Fuji digital cameras entered the market in the late 90's. Started in Japan in 1934, Fuji has always tried to stay ahead of the pack. The history of this company is rather interesting so let us take a look at it.
Started in a small Japanese in the foothills of Mt. Fuji, the Fuji Film Co. Ltd was founded in the year 1934. At that time, no one could imagine that such a small camera making company would become a million dollar global name known all across the globe within a span of 50 years. Today, Fuji is known for its great digital cameras and innovative technology.
It took Fuji 35 years to come to the USA. In the US, Fuji again started small with the establishment of a six person office in the Empire State Building in New York City. Within a span of four years, in 1969, the company had expanded itself so fast that the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company issued American Depository Receipts (ADRs) on Fuji Photo Film stock.
In 1976, Fuji Film launched the world's first ISO 400 color print film. This was the fastest color still photo film present in the world during that time. Then, in 1980, Fuji launched the fastest color motion picture film - the A-250. After this, Fuji became the official sponsor of the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
One of the biggest launches in camera history made by Fuji was the QuickSnap in the year 1986. The QuickSnap was a one-time-use camera and it became an instant hit in the market. Due to its usefulness, easy-to-use convenience and price, the QuickSnap became the market leader during its time. Improvising on the QuickSnap, Fuji introduced the world's first one-time use 35mm camera with a flash in the year 1988.
Fuji was not a company which could be left behind as far as digital technology and digital cameras was concerned. Even though Sony overtook Fuji in the race of introducing the first digital camera, Fuji gave the world the first digital camera with removable media in the year 1988.
Today, Fuji has firmly established itself in the digital revolution. It has continuously innovated itself and made several product launches such as the MX-700 in the year 1998, which was the world's smallest and lightest mega pixel digital camera at that time. Fuji has also made forays into digital printing technology.
Not only this, but Fuji is a conscientious of the environment as well. In the year 2000, Fuji made a $7.8 million contribution in the construction of the Fuji Film Giant Panda Conservation Habitat in Washington DC in order to bring two giant pandas from China to the USA.
From the NANO CUBIC Technology which allows digital videotapes to increase their recording capacity to 1000 two-hour movies in 2001 to the xD-Picture Card, which was the smallest storage media in the market in 2002; Fuji continues to introduce newer and newer digital technologies today. Some of the newest digital cameras introduced today are:
A-Series : Automatic point-and-shoot cameras for basic users.
E-Series : Full featured, compact cameras with manual control as well.
F-Series : Ultra compact cameras in different styles with full features.
S-Series : Advanced cameras with optic controls for advanced users.
S-Pro Series : Extremely advanced cameras for professionals.

UPDATE FOR : Daily Camera
Shopping for a new digital camera can be quite frustrating with the hundreds of choices available. Digital camera reviews clarify this confusion by comparing camera features and options, then rating how each camera compares with similar models.
An effective comparison of best digital cameras requires two things: 1) the camera's specs and features, and 2) performance ratings. Spec sheets and ratings are plentiful, but to efficiently compare digital cameras it's important to set some guidelines.
Decide on how the camera will be used, the quality and size of final prints, and necessary features. Write these down and rank camera reviews and ratings against these standards. Whether looking for a professional or snapshot camera, scan the reviews and narrow your choices down to a few cameras before making final comparisons.
OK, Lets Cut to the Chase...
Re-visit the reviews for this short list and evaluate the digital camera ratings in more depth for the following criteria:
Design, Construction and Controls
Minor design differences can become significant in daily camera use. Carefully compare how each camera's review is rated for design elements. Size and weight, body configuration, plus location of buttons, knobs and other controls can make a camera a joy to use or a real pain in the neck.
Evaluate how well the camera is put together. Are access doors for battery, memory, etc. solid and stable? What does the reviewer say about the shutter release, zoom and other buttons and knobs? How many photos will a fully charged battery take? Is the LCD bright and clear in both low light and sunny conditions?
The reviewer's evaluation of the camera's controls is critical. Can manual adjustments be made for different lighting conditions? How about auto-focus zones and exposure modes? Are controls simple and intuitive, or complicated menus?
Sensors, Pixels and Processors
These are the heart of a digital camera and determine photo quality, so closely compare how the reviewer rates them.
Generally larger sensors have more powerful and efficient photodiodes, and will produce higher quality photo images. Both CCD and CMOS sensor technology is advancing rapidly, but with each new development there are usually draw-backs, so compare carefully.
Digital camera marketing would have us believe it's all about more megapixels. But it's more complicated than that. Evaluate how each camera's review rates pixel quality, not just quantity. Some cameras will actually take better pictures with fewer pixels.
What the camera's processor does with the data collected from the sensor's diodes is equally important. It must properly interpret color balance and interpolate pixels for sharp natural looking pictures. It must be able to do it quickly or you'll have to wait too long between shots.
Lens Optics
In many ways lenses for digital cameras are simpler and less expensive than for conventional 35mm cameras. Even so, sensors and processors can't produce a better photo than what's visible through the lens. Compare the ratings because cheap lenses can distort images and colors.
In conclusion, decide on camera basics and budget range, scan enough reviews to pick a handful of finalists, then scrutinize the reviews and ratings on those cameras to find the perfect choice.
A list of top rated digital cameras can be found at our Digital Cameras Ratings page.

UPDATE FOR : Disposable Camera
There are many kinds of disposable cameras. All disposable cameras are already inexpensive, but there are some that are even more of a bargain than others. While individual disposable cameras are almost always affordable, sometimes the price becomes an issue when many need to be bought at once, such as for a wedding. Aside from that, it’s always nice to get the best price possible, even if you’re buying a single camera.
There are many sources for disposable cameras online, such as eBay. The way to get the best possible price per camera is to buy them in bulk. There are many retailers that cater to brides and grooms and offer good bulk prices, or even specific wedding packages. Typically, the more they buy, the better – the greater the quantity, the lower the price per camera.
Just remember that a discount disposable camera may or may not have a flash, and may not have the limited perks and options that are usually offered with disposable cameras such as processing with a CD. Typically they have 27 exposures each. Apparently some companies use generic (often reused) disposable cameras -- these are not as good as new unused ones.
Your best bet is to buy in quantity or bulk to get wholesale prices for your cheap disposable camera. Look for specials and sales too. Disposable cameras can be found for as little as $2.00 for a daylight camera (with no flash.) When the prices are already so low it can seem like a waste of time to look for a lower price yet, but there are some amazing deals out there. And it can be especially important to find good deals when you need to buy a large quantity. The good news is, those deals are out there. Packages designed for weddings can be especially cheap, but of course they can be used for any large event -- family reunions, graduations, school functions – the sky’s the limit.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Cases
If you are buying a new underwater camera or video camera, you will need an underwater camera case. And this case needs to be watertight, airtight, dustproof, crush resistant and designed to keep your valuable equipment safe from all the elements. It may also be rustproof, pest-proof, and chemical resistant to oils, fuels and solvents. It may have flame retardant included and be molded with a UV stabilizer, making it ultraviolet resistant. (This will prevent the plastic from becoming brittle if left in the sun for extended periods of time.)
Some of the best cases are subjected to a 24 hour submersion tests, manufactured to exceed of 400 lbs of stacking, and a drop test at 48 inches.
Some have a ''pressure release purge valve'' that guarantees a perfect seal by incorporating its own O-Ring under one of the latches. And you will never forget to set the valve since it automatically activates when closing the case. Pressure is released as you open the latch.
Removable Accuform foam may be included with your underwater camera case. This is vertically pre-scored, high-density foam that is easily formed to provide a snug fit to protect your equipment from the abuse of your toughest adventure.

UPDATE FOR : Camera City
One of the major problems of the larger cities of the word these days is crime. It appears that the larger the city the more-acceptable serious crime seems to be. If not because to the proliferation of serious crime then because the mindset of its citizens have been conditioned to accept the serious behaviour of a minority of its inhabitants.
So, how does this statement relate to infrared digital photography and the hobbyist or professional camera operator?
Not much escapes the all-seeing eye of the infrared camera of the police helicopter as it chases a carload of thieves down the freeway in the middle of the night. They will almost invariably be caught by the police when they exit their vehicle thanks to the thermal heat imaging of the helicopter’s infrared camera.
Likewise, your own infrared daytime photography should let no entity go unnoticed. After all – you’ve spent a lot of time setting up the shot and composing the image with just the right light, shutter speed and aperture. Your mindset should not be to simply accept inaccuracies and faults with your photograph, but to go that extra step to eliminate them altogether.
Just like the officers in the police chopper, why would you go to great lengths to capture that final important infrared image only to decide at the last second to give up the chase?
Digital infrared photography does have a few things that should be taken into account to ensure your image is as best as could be. The following combination of items will affect your image:
Light, Dust on the infrared filter, Type of infrared filter, Exposure setting, Aperture and Movement of the subject
The digital infrared images at Photo Shop Australia http://www.PhotoShopAustralia.com/ have varying amounts of light, shutter speeds and apertures.
Low light may require longer exposure times if you can’t get the aperture down low enough. This could have a dramatic effect on the final image – especially if you are shooting a subject that may move even slightly.
Dust on the infrared filter will affect the image by producing “blind spots” in the final image. A close inspection of your infrared image in your photo editing software will reveal these. The blind spots can be smudged out of the image easily, but if you have hundreds then it may be more worthwhile to recompose the image than to edit the digital photo.
The type of infrared filter will also determine the outcome of the print. The Hoya R70 filter seems to be the best-priced for digital infrared photography.
Exposure and aperture settings can be played with until you find the best combination for your camera. But keep in mind that usually the higher the F-stop the longer the shutter speed required. So shooting a moving subject at a long shutter speed can result in unwanted effects.
Long shutter speeds (of up to 15 seconds or more) of trees on a windy day can actually produce the most spectacular effects.
We’ve all seen those long exposure night photographs of cars moving along a freeway. Long exposure daytime digital infrared imaging can produce amazing results too. You just have to get creative with your camera and subjects. Think of the possibilities!
Be aware that adding an infrared filter may have serious effects on your camera’s electronics or lens. Consult your camera’s operations manual or manufacturer before fitting any infrared filter to your camera, and never look through an infrared or any other type of filter with your own eyes.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Shops
Alrighty. Now that we pretty much have an idea why we want a camera and what we're going to do with it, let's get to the next steps.
Shop Smart, Shop Used-Mart
This is the secret many of us photographers don't like to admit to each other but we do it anyway. You would be surprised how many cameras and electronic gadgets sell on the most popular auction sites, which are basically new, and are only a few months old. Why is this? Well, it goes back to the What Are Your Plans question. Many don't ask themselves this question, and after a few months, come to discover the camera they purchased is just not for them, and they might as well sell it, and get something else that takes their fancy.
If you buy used, you may even find yourself a DSLR with a lens or two, for the same price as a DSLR-Type camera. Camera manufacturers are producing more DSLRs than ever before, and more camera owners are selling their DSLRs in a short period of time, more than ever before. If you have doubts, check eBay and other auction websites. There are virtually endless lists of sellers.
Another reason why you should buy used, is many photographers are upgrading quicker than ever before. Technology is evolving so fast, a new DSLR is announced almost every 3-6 months, and compact digitals and DSLR-Type cameras are introduced almost every 3 months. This is another subject for another article altogether, but the reason for this, is the purposeful actions of manufacturers to flood the market with their own particular brand for recognition. Some say it's technology working its way into the market replacing the old--some say it's a plan to overwhelm a particular sector with a particular brand due to marketing behavior. I think it's a combination of the two. In any case, we have photographers who are upgrading their barely-used models for the latest and greatest Techno Shooter.
A Few Things To Consider When Buying Used
I won't go into extreme detail when purchasing a used camera, but let's take a look at a few factors and options.
eBay Protocol
My advice when searching for used cameras on eBay, is to look for a few distinguishing factors that I have found attribute to a legitimate seller:
- Positive Rating of 25+
- Has no consistent negative ratings
- Several images of the product being sold
- Responds to inquiries with direct anwswers, not vague generalities
- Has knowledge of the equipment they are selling
Yes, a seller can have negative ratings. Some people who give eBay advice say never buy from a person who has even one negative rating. That's just unrealistic, and is very uninformed about the buying and selling sector. As an example, I will use myself. I purchased a vehicle on eBay for $5000. The seller had negatives. However, when I corresponded with the seller, he responded within 24hrs. We sent several emails back and forth, and I even talked with him on the phone a few times. It's been over 18 months since I purchased the vehicle and it hasn't given me any problems other than having a very small coolant leak which only does this in the winter months.
When you're thinking of dealing with a seller, be sure to read the comments. Most of them if you can. This will give you an idea of the overall profile of the seller.
Buying From Outside The US
This is risky. I won't deny it. In fact, since you're reading this article, you probably are looking for a first-time digital camera, so I recommend avoiding this option altogether. Personally, I've conducted transactions outside the US, which include Germany, the UK, France, Belgium, New Zealand, Japan, and others. In time, you may do the same. However, the key in dealing with anyone anywhere, is knowing the equipment you want.
eBay Is Not The Only Place For A Deal
Believe it or not, you can find some good deals online besides eBay. For example, one of my favorite used camera stores is KEH--a new and used camera equipment dealer out of Atlanta, GA. They have a very strict grading system, and you can be confident when they mark a camera as 'Like New', it will be like new.
There are other shops like this located throughout the United States, and conducting a simple Google search should give you a used shop that is within driving distance. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you might be limited to online purchasing, as camera shops and cities are not as closely populated farther East.
Ma & Pa Shops
It is true that many 'Ma & Pa' shops charge much more than what you would find online. However, there are a few deals you may discover when you're browsing. Also, start to forge a relationship at the camera shop. If you like the owners, and the only thing preventing you from buying from them is the higher prices, commit yourself to buying from them exclusively, and they will more than likely give you a nice discount which would almost be similar to buying online. Remember these shops are physical buildings, located in a business district, and they have many more overhead costs than your typical online store. Thousands, and I do mean thousands, of online 'stores' could actually be storefronts, who merely go through a larger distributor. This is fine, and there's nothing really wrong with this method of selling, but the seller is mostly someone who's looking to make a fast buck, and may not be concerned when and if your camera equipment is defective. In addition, the store may actually close and then your hung out to dry altogether. Your only recourse is going through the manufacturer, which can take several weeks, and even months, to get a replacement.
So, don't give local Ma & Pa shops the cold shoulder automatically. Give yourself a little time to initiate a relationship, purchase a few items here and there, and see if the store owners pick up on it and reward you with your committed purchases.
In the next part of Choosing A Digital Camera, we will discuss even more alternatives to buying new.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Deals
When someone buys a new digital camera for recreational purposes, they rarely look at the type of storage media the camera supports. How important is the storage media, exactly? Well, it's where your pictures are stored, so it must be pretty important! Someone doesn't want to be in a another country before they figure out the camera blinks 'Memory Low' in red. A new digital camera usually comes with a means of storage, but the storage media is, most of the time, not sufficient enough to hold the slighest amount of pictures. The average stock digital camera may come with 16MB, 32MB, and maybe even 64MB worth of memory media. A memory card with at least 512MB-1GB storage is highly recommended to replace the stock memory card the camera packaging includes. The most common types of digital camera storage media are CompactFlash, Secure Digital, xD Picture, Memory Stick, MicroDrive, and SmartMedia.
Most of the current digital cameras use CompactFlash cards. The two types of CF cards are Type I and Type II(slightly thicker). The Type II CompactFlash card is also known as MicroDrive, which will be discussed further down this storage media list. SanDisk describes their CF cards as 'size of a matchbook and only weighs half an ounce'. There is a controller card that allows for faster transfers. These cards are the most popular because of the decent price and the support throughout many digital cameras.
Secure Digital Cards are the smallest digital camera media cards in the storage media market. The cards can store up to 4GB of memory as of now, but new technology will soon increase the max size to 8GB. A high level of protection is guaranteed against illegal copying. This means that Secure Digital Cards offer more data security.
xD Picture Cards can be used in CompactFlash supported cameras with a CompactFlash adapter. The maximum capacity of xD Picture Cards is a gigabyte of space. The cards offer fast read and write capabilities for digital cameras.
Memory Sticks were created by Sony for their Cybershot line of digital cameras. They aren't supported by brands of digital cameras other than Sony which decreases their digital camera's support of Memory Sticks severely. Many of Sony's other products, besides digital cameras, support Memory Sticks. The Playstation Portable(PSP) uses Sony's Memory Sticks as well as Sony's Vaio line.
MicroDrives are the hard drives inside of Type II CompactFlash Cards. They have better value and are better priced than flash memory, but flash memory has more space and storage. You may have heard that hard drive MP3 players fail over time due to their moving parts. The same concept can be applied to these cards because they have moving parts as well. This is why you may have heard that MicroDrives are unreliable and low in quality. Many of them would break due to the mishandling of the card.
SmartMedia cards are being replaced by the new flash card technology. The cards are still available, but the modern digital cameras usually don't support this type of storage media anymore. The card is cheaper than all the other types of storage media mentioned above.
Storage Media for digital cameras is constantly evolving and improving in quality and capacity. Years ago, the maximum storage capacity for an average memory card was 128MB or 256MB at max. They cost way too much, probably 300% more than they cost right now. The prices of digital camera storage media gets lower every year as the technology gets better. The types of storage media provides diversity and choice for the average consumer with a digital camera.

UPDATE FOR : View Camera
When it comes to simple basic Still-Life Tabletop Photography, as far as the novice 'wanna-be-photographer' is concerned there is often a mental block, when really it's quite simple, so much so that if you start to do it professionally, after a few years the trick is to stay awake.
I asked UK photographer Phil Selfe why he sold his very successful studios a few years back and he answered, 'I just got bored Rog'.
I remember when he was my assistant back in the seventies, I would set up the first still-life shot, then say to him, 'Shoot off the rest Phil' and go out for the rest of the day.
Of course not all still-life is so mundane and in fact some still-life shots are very exacting, requiring careful planning, construction of the set and attention to lighting details, which would include running test shots to acquire the effect that was needed. Sometimes this could take a day or two to successfully complete.
If you were shooting room sets as I use to do some time back, this would require a lot more work and would involve the use of many assistants, carpenters for set building and in many cases taking days to successfully complete. You would also need some serious studio space to accomplish this type of specialist work, as I use to have.
But as UK comedian Ronnie Corbett would say 'I digress', lets get back to the basics of still-life tabletop photography.
For lighting you will need an attachment to your studio flash unit called a 'Soft Box'. This is as it sounds, a box constructed in fabric, which is reflective on the inside, with a diffuse panel at the front, providing a directional soft defused light to illuminate the subject. An umbrella attachment is not sutible for this work as the spread of light is to wide.
If you don't have a studio flash unit you can buy a soft box that will attach to a hammer head flash gun. If you have a second flash head you can put this to good use by simply bouncing it off the ceiling, to help fill any shadow area.
What you will need for Still-Life Tabletop Photography.:
1. Medium Format Camera and a 'macro' lens (close focusing). Better still a 5x4inch. View camera, which has tilt and swing front and rear panels for ease of focusing.
Did you know that only one in fifteen NEW cameras sold to day, are film cameras, this means there are great bargains to be had in the use film camera market, take advantage of that right now.
2. Soft Box Attachment.
3. Tripod, a good solid one.
4. Lighting Stands, you will need two or three.
5. White Card as reflectors or as a background, size 1mtr.x70cm. from your art shop, get three.
6. Background. muslin or material, off white or neutral in color.
7. Low table about 2ftx2ft. 18 inches high.
8. Light Meter for flash exposures.
What to do:
Set up your soft box at an angle of 45 degrees to the left or right of camera and slightly to the back of the set. This should be for small still-life objects and the light should be no more than a meter away from the subject, so you are able to stop down, (set the lens aperture), to at least f22, to get as much depth-of-field as possible so the image will be in sharp focus. If you have a second flash head, use it bounced off the ceiling to help to fill any shadow area.
Fix your reflector, (white card), the opposite side to the flash and an additional reflector the other side underneath the soft box.
Use a good lens hood, such as a bellows lens hood, to keep the light from the soft box hitting the lens. It's also good practice to fix a small piece of black card, suspended over the lens of the camera to prevent any light causing flare from the lens, taking care that the black card doesn't clip the picture area, or effect you meter reading.
Make test exposures to find out the best result and after some experimentation, you will find the results that you want. It's also good to 'bracket' your exposures, which means to make three exposures, one at half a stop, (f.stop number), above the reading and one at half a stop below, choosing the best density of the three exposures made. Most pro photographers, even after a tests, use this as standard practice. Film is cheap and digital is nothing.
Now if you think that there is some other 'magic' formula that the pros use to shoot simple still life, your WRONG. This is the most used pro photo still-life set up, but of course there many exceptions to the rule and not all still life work is table top.
Final comment: The best way to become an accomplished photographer in still-life or other work, is go work for one as an assistant. It's the way most good pro photographers make it.
Happy shooting.

UPDATE FOR : National Camera
Research has proven that customers make five major buying decisions in the course of any major purchase. These decisions are always made in the same order. The first is whether to “buy” the salesperson—you. The second is whether to “buy” your company. Only after those two decisions are made will the customer seriously consider whether to buy your products.
This means that you need to sell yourself to the customer—by building rapport while conducting a good needs assessment—before you begin to sell your company and its capabilities. Not coincidentally, that needs assessment will also allow you to sell your company far more successfully. Why? Because you must first understand your customer’s needs, before you can answer the customer’s most important question about your company.
You must understand the customer’s needs before you can effectively sell your company.
In deciding whether to do business with you, customers have three basic questions about your company:
1. What does it do?
2. What is it known for?
3. Is your company a good match for mine?
The first two questions usually can be answered with a rehearsed presentation that explains what your company does and the benefits that other clients have gained from doing business with you.
The third question is most important, however, and you cannot answer it with a generic presentation that relies on standard information. To persuade customers that your company is a good match for theirs, you must tailor your answer to their specific needs.
The best way to do this is to tie your company presentation directly to needs that you uncovered earlier in the sales call. You thus are able to present your company’s capabilities as solutions to the customer’s key problems and opportunities.
For Example:
“You told me earlier that service from your current supplier is taking more than 24 hours and that this causes you problems meeting your production goals. We would be a good match for you because our service response averages less than four hours. With our company handling your service you will find it far easier to achieve your goals.”
“Are we a good match?” is every customer’s most important question about your company. You cannot answer it before you have uncovered, understood, and agreed upon the customer’s needs. “Sell yourself” first by demonstrating that you care about those needs. You’ll be amazed at how much more effectively you can then sell your company.
In The Field:
If you are in a commodity business and competing with rivals who sell on price alone, it is especially vital to tell your customers a powerful “company story” that explains why they should do business with you. For National Camera Exchange, which competes in the commodity-oriented business of photographic equipment, differentiating itself from the myriad of price-only suppliers is a daily challenge.
National Camera’s added-value proposition lies in the expertise and consulting skills of its sales force. Its equation for success or failure is simple: If the story of that consulting capability isn’t told effectively, the company loses to lower-priced competitors. Sales and training manager Sean Morgan says that an Action Selling sales training program made a world of difference. “Since more of our salespeople are telling our company story, we are posting higher numbers, and they look less like a roller coaster,” Morgan said. “When the customer needs an education on camera equipment, it is critical to sales success to show them how National Camera is a good match for their needs.”

UPDATE FOR : Mini Digital Camera
Digital macro photography may be the way to go if you are planning to get your products on your website.
Digital close-ups will be the quickest and cheapest route to go, but which camera is your best choice for such digital macro photography?
Do you need to look at digital SLR cameras, or will you get good enough results with an appropriate digital macro photography compact or 'prosumer' (professional consumer) model?
For close up digital macro photography work, many of the compact or prosumer cameras are considered good enough. For instance, if it is for getting those rings and other jewelry items up there on the web, a 3 Mega Pixel camera will produce adequate images that will still need to be reduced in size.
Because of their small sensor size, the compacts often have better depth of field which could be very good for this task.
For big close-ups, rather than true digital macro photography, you can couple a good prosumer camera with a 2 dioptre Close Up lens.
For example, you can use the KonicaMinolta Z1 with its 10x zoom, which would get you in very close. Or you could use the Nikon 5700 in a similar manner - without having to spend a lot more on a comparable Digital SLR plus lens.
On the other hand, if you want to go the DSLR route, a good example - and if money is a concern! - is the Canon 300D Rebel, which produces excellent close up digital macro photography images.
As your web products are unlikely to be scared off by getting too close, a 50mm macro lens such as the Sigma 50mm f2.8 EX DG MACRO should do the trick!
If you are on a tight budget, and you need to get those products out there on the web without risking too much scarce capital, careful consideration of all the options available for digital macro photography is necessary.
You may decide on the seemingly less expensive DSLR's, only to find that you have to purchase an additional lens at considerable cost, in order to equal the image quality of the better prosumer cameras.
A few general digital macro photography hints to get you started:
1. Jewelry is often tricky because of the reflective surfaces. Use reflectors to create a soft surrounding light.
2. When using window lighting, you can use a paper reflector on the far side to fill in the dark areas.
3. It is easy to make your own reflectors, using cooking foil or white paper.
4. If your camera has a hot-shoe, you can make use of a ring light (eg. the HVLRLA from Sony) for extreme close ups in digital macro photography.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Store
If only shop assistants could be more helpful. Especially when discussing photography….
“Hello Sir, can I help you?”
“Yes, I would like a lnew ens for my camera”
“What sort of lens would you like, Sir?”
“I don’t know. I was hoping you could tell me”
“I see Sir. Well, what type of photographer are you?”
“What types are there?”
“Well, are you a portrait photographer perhaps or a landscape photographer? How about a close-up or architecture photographer?”
“Which one is best?”
“Well, Sir, it all depends on your interests and experiences. I’m not sure I can tell you. Let’s try a different approach, Sir. What aperture were you looking for?”
“The biggest”
“We have a lovely Acme 70 – 200 f2.8 here Sir”
“That looks nice. How much is it?”
“Three thousand dollars”
“Oh. I didn't want to spend that much. Haven’t you got one like that for under a hundred dollars?”
“No, Sir”
“What about that one” (points to lens)
“That’s a lovely model Sir. Good value and nice results. Fits any Nikon”
“No Canon fits?”
“No”
“That’s no good”
“Sir, am I right in thinking that you have no idea which lens you want but it needs to be large aperture, Canon fit, low in price and presumably image stabilised, one-touch, lightweight, quick focus, titanium lacquered, diamond-encrusted and currently in stock?”
“Yes, that’s just about it”
“You’re in luck, Sir. I understand they have some in stock on the other side of town………….”

UPDATE FOR : Network Camera
What is a IP Network Camera?
In simplest terms, an IP Camera is a stand-alone device that transmits audio and video through a standard CAT5 Network Cable. It has a built-in web server which allows the camera to run individually without a PC having to be connected. It also allows you to view the audio and video by connecting directly to the camera with your internet browser without any software being installed. This allows you access the camera from any location, even over the Internet.
IP cameras have many advantages over tradition CCTV security cameras. Some of these features include wireless connectivity, the ability to view video remotely over the Internet, the ability to record to a remote location and lower cost.
Advanced features of Network Cameras can offer added security for certain applications. These features include, Motion Detection, Pan/Tilt/Zoom, Infrared, Analog Output and Two-way Audio.
Lets discuss these features in greater detail.
Motion Detection
Some Network Cameras come with a feature called Motion Detection. Hot-Spots can be setup within the video frame to detect motion. Once motion is detected, the camera will begin recording or generate a snapshot which can be Emailed or sent to a web server via FTP of the detected motion. Snapshots can also be sent of images prior to the motion and after the motion.
Pan/Tilt/Zoom
Having the ability to Pan and Tilt adds greater security if you have a large viewing area. Once logged into a Network Camera with Pan and Tilt capabilities, controls appear next to your video allowing you to move the camera left, right, up and down. The controls can be used even over the Internet.
Along with the Pan and Tilt feature, some cameras come with Zoom. Zooming is also handy when a greater detail of video is needed. Network Cameras can come with two methods of Zooming: Optical and Digital. One is called Digital Zoom.
Digital Zoom discards pixels around the edge of the video fitting the remaining pixels into the same space to give the appearance of Zooming in. This comes with the expense of resolution and causes the Zoomed image to look very pixilated.
A post was made on the NetworkCameraReviews.com forums that addresses the differences between digital zoom and optical zoom. Click here to view the post.
Infrared
When needing to view video in the dark, Infrared is the way to go. Cameras can come with a built-in IR (Infrared) lens or the ability for an add-on IR lens to be equipped. Infrared is a wave of light that is outside of the visible part of the color spectrum. Infrared illuminators shine this wave of light which the lens picks up.
Analog Output
Some cameras come with an Analog Output to configure your camera to be notified of opened doors, alarms, or other events. Once notified of these events, the camera will start taking snapshots or video.
Two-way Audio
A Majority of cameras have audio built-in to the camera. This allows you to hear audio along with the video the camera displays. Some cameras come with Two-Way Audio.
There are two types of Two-Way Audio. One is a Full-Duplex Two-Way Audio that allows the user at the PC to hear audio from the camera and also speak back to the camera and have audio come out of the camera itself. Some cameras have a speaker port on the back to plug in external speakers which will give off the audio. The second type is a Two-Way Audio within the camera itself. The camera will pickup audio and send the audio to the speakers hookedup to the camera.
In the next article we will be addressing how IP cameras work.

UPDATE FOR : Panasonic Camera
When Panasonic Digital Cameras introduced their Lumix DMC-FZ5 they brought some real color competition into play for this class of camera!
On the one hand this Panasonic digital camera is a real step up from its predecessor - the DMC-FZ3 - in terms of color accuracy. On the other hand it also outperforms many cameras in its type and price group when it comes to true color rendition.
As such - and incorporating the same Leica-branded DC Vario-Elmarit zoom with its 12x optical range as the DMC-FZ3 - this digital camera is a serious contender in the higher-end prosumer market, as Panasonic digital camera reviews point out. This lens system contributes to a very good image resolution.
Having said that, expert consumer photographers might very well expect to be able to manipulate those colorful image files in RAW format, whereas the DMC-FZ5 only supports TIFF.
One of the most appreciated features of the Panasonic Digital Camera DMC-FZ5 is its highly effective Mega Optical Image Stabilization system. It comes with two modes of which the first offers continuous image stabilization, which is said to assist during image composition.
The second mode - which reportedly is even more effective, only comes into play during the actual release of the shutter.
This Panasonic digital camera also features a real-time histogram, which is always welcome on a digital camera. This ensures that you get a balanced exposure and not blow away the highlights! It is a challenge to learn how to interpret a histogram instinctively in the field, but worth the effort for the improved results you will be getting.
A handy feature highlighted in Panasonic digital camera reviews, is the ability of the DMC-FZ5 to record sound with still images. If you have a number of similar objects to record, the 5 second sound input can help you make sense of your pictures afterwards!
As far as power consumption is concerned, the Panasonic Digital Camera DMC-FZ5 has a sleep mode to conserve power, and will then retract the zoom lens. It can be set to come into action after 1-10 minutes, or when you press any button. It uses a proprietary rechargeable battery, with a charger included. Battery life is longer than with its DMC-FZ3 predecessor.
If you're tired of serious photography and want to play around a bit, this Panasonic digital camera offers you an animation feature. It lets you take a number of sequential-movement stills which you can then transform automatically into a movie sequence.
So if you or the kids have some clay lying around, this feature could keep everyone suitably amused for an afternoon...
If not, it will be just as easy to enjoy hours of entertainment discovering all the superb features of the DMC-FZ5 Panasonic Digital Camera.

UPDATE FOR : Isight Camera
In the past two months Apple has released a number of completely new products, and more importantly has started their transition to the Intel processor. In this article I will detail the new product offerings and options available on each.
The first new Intel product announced by Apple was the iMac Core Duo. The all-in-one enclosure featuring either a 17” or 20” LCD monitor looks exactly the same as the previous iMac G5 enclosure, and like the iMac G5, features a built-in iSight camera. Inside however it’s an entirely different story. The iMac Core Duo features the Intel Core Duo processor running at 1.83 or 2.0 GHz, the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card, 512MB of built-in RAM upgradeable to 2GB, and a 160GB Serial ATA hard drive upgradeable to 500GB. The iMac Core Duo also features Front Row media software and the Apple Remote.
The second new Intel-based product that Apple introduced was the MacBook Pro. This is their brand new laptop, and their first completely new laptop in quite a while. The MacBook Pro features an Intel Core Duo processor running at 1.83, 2.0, or 2.16 GHZ, a 15.4” TFT display, 512MB of built-in RAM upgradeable to 2GB, an 80GB Serial ATA hard drive upgradeable to 120GB, and the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card with 128MB or 256MB of RAM. Unlike any laptop in Apple history, the new MacBook Pro also features a built-in iSight camera, Front Row software, and the Apple Remote.
The latest Intel-based product announced by Apple is the Mac mini. Like the iMac, the new Mac mini looks exactly the same as the old Mac mini, but is completely different inside. The mini is the first Mac to offer either the Intel Core Solo or Core Duo processor. The base model Mac mini comes standard with the Intel Core Solo running at 1.5 GHz, 512MB of built-in RAM, a 60GB Serial ATA hard drive, and a built-in Intel GMA950 graphics chipset. New to the Mac mini is the Apple Remote, Front Row software, and the option of connecting the mini to your home television.
What I am most excited about with these new Intel-based Macs is that Apple finally offers a product line in which all of their offerings are comparable in processing power and performance. Previously there were the PowerPC G4-based products - the Mac mini, PowerBook, and iBook - and the PowerPC G5-based products – the iMac G5 and Power Mac G5. While the PowerPC G4 is a viable and powerful processor, it is no match for the PowerPC G5, and left many purchasers of G4-based Macs stuck with substantially less processor power and overall performance. Now that the Intel-based Mac line is out, even buyers of lower end Macs still are offered processor power and performance comparable to buyers of top-of-the-line Macs. This is a great move for Apple, and is a win-win situation for consumers, shareholders, and for the company.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Stores
There are ways for an amateur photographer to get recognition and financial reward and that's by selling photographs. Publications are always in the market for appropriate photographs, colour or black and white. The major national and international magazines usually pay the best rates for pictures. But they are the most difficult to sell because you have competition from staff photographers and professional free-lancers who are hired on a regular basis.
Fortunately, many regional, specialty, and company magazines, as well as area newspapers, are glad to have colour transparencies or prints, or black and white prints submitted for publication. Payment can range from only a photo credit line mentioning your name to a check for hundreds of dollars. Contact the publications and ask for a copy of their guidelines for submitting photographs.
The most valuable source for finding publications that buy photographs is Photographer's Market, a book that is updated and published annually by Writer's Digest Books. It describes hundreds of publications, including their addresses and telephone numbers, the types of pictures they use, rates of pay and the name of the photo editor or art director to whom you should submit your photos. Copies of this exceptional photo market guide are available at libraries and bookstores. Be certain to use only the current year's edition, because publications frequently change their picture requirements.
Pictures bought for advertising rather than editorial use pay the most money. However, use of a photo in an advertisement requires model releases signed by all recognizable persons. These releases give the photographer permission to use the photograph and help avoid any subsequent lawsuits by persons in the picture. Advertisers may also require property release if a building or other identifiable property is prominent in the picture. Standard release forms are sold at many camera stores; carry some in your camera bag in case you come across a subject you think might eventually be sold to an advertiser.
One of the best publications with down to earth advice is the ASMP Professional Business Practices in Photography, 6th edition, published by the American Society of Media Photographers, Inc.. Copies are available at some bookstores and camera stores or directly from ASMP.
If you are thinking about becoming a professional photographer, it’s also worthwhile to read magazines published for the pros and their special interests. Among them is the newsy Photo District news, which covers everything from stock and advertising photography to digital imaging. It's available by subscription and is also sold by some camera stores, bookstores and newsstands.
One way to start on the road to a photographic career is to take informal portraits of friends and other people. You can improve your camera skills while making enough money to cover the cost of film and prints. However, until you achieve a state of proficiency and confidence in your work, be careful that your subjects don't expect a more professional result than you can deliver.
Whenever money is involved, make certain your subjects know how much you will charge them for photographs. And be sure that they understand you expect payment upon delivery of the pictures. Although people are always anxious to see the finished prints, once the photographs are in their hands they often are in no hurry to pay you; let them know you expect to be paid immediately.
Many times recognition and payment act as stimulants toward making you a photographer. Well-known photographer Philippe Halsman, whose portraits were featured on more than 100 Life magazine covers, put it this way, 'I drifted into photography like one drifts into prostitution. First I did it to please myself, then I did it to please my friends and eventually I did it for money'.
Regardless of your specific interest or goals, the more you photograph, the more your photographs will improve. Start making photographs, then keep making better photographs. And most of all, enjoy your photography.

UPDATE FOR : Cord Camera
Ever wonder how the photography pros seem to get those perfect close-ups of flowers, a face or an otherwise shaded object?
The photographers world is one of perfecting an art form. It's about capturing the subject in the proper light. It is not about delivering a real-life image. It's about capturing impactful color, texture and shape when engaging the camera shutter. The photographers craft is image media art.
On your next field trip to the park or on a hike into the interior of a forest, take your flash unit and an off camera shoe cord. The shoe cord is usually a curly flash extension cord that connects your camera flash shoe to your flash unit and allows you to hold the flash unit up to 3 feet away from your camera. Hold the flash unit to the right or to the left of your subject. Hold it high and over the top of your subject or, even have the light source come from below or behind your subject. Your flash can be positioned anywhere in a virtual 3 foot sphere around your camera. This provides you countless number of ways to simulate light and shadow for your close-up, still and portrait photography.
Bring along a friend. Have them hold a flash reflector, a white cloth or a reflective surface (like the one used in car windshields to reduce direct sunlight and heat buildup). Use this sun reflective surface with existing sunlight or your off camera flash. Now you have multiplied your possibilities for soft or diffused lighting for your images.
Create your own sun for those close-ups, stills and portraits. Just bring your:
1) Flash unit
2) Off Camera Shoe Cord
3) Reflective Surface for diffused lighting
4) A Friend
You no longer need to wait for that 'right light' to capture an awesome photographic image. Experiment with artificial light and you will be delighted with the results. Here Comes Your Sun.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Raw
Digital cameras typically produce one of two types of files — JPGs or RAW files. Most amateurs work with JPGs while most professionals prefer to work with RAW files.
Here's why:
JPG files are small and can be handled by most commercial programs, even those inexpensive ones you find at Wall Mart and Staples. They are small because they are created by a process called lossy compression. This means that some of the original data is lost, even removed, when the file is created and compressed. If the level of compression is set too high it can cause a real deterioration in image quality (you get to choose the level of compression both inside your camera - the image quality setting - and by using a program such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements where you will be able to choose the degree of compression applied to your corrected image, usually between a range of 1 to 12, 12 being the least amount of compression).
The reason most programs can read and load JPGs is that they have long been the publishing industry’s standard format. The JPG is also the standard format used on the web. So, as you can see, JPG files are very convenient and easy to use. And yes, they can be and are reproduced in glossy magazines. One more thing: each time you save a JPG image you lose a little more quality until finally the image becomes virtually useless. As I already mentioned, small JPG images of less than 100k in size are fine for web use. A computer screen is set up to handle no more than 72 dots per inch (no, I'm not going to get into that here) while publication quality digital images (for newspapers and glossy magazines) require 300 dots per inch. The JPG file can easily handle both applications.
But here’s the thing: when your digital camera saves an image in JPG format all of the in-camera settings - color balance, color temperature, white balance, sharpening and so on - are processed by the camera and placed into the file for you. In essence the camera says to itself, 'this is what I think he/she would the image to look like, and most of the time it gets it pretty darned close. And this is not necessarily a bad thing because you can still change all of those elements, be it to a somewhat limited degree, in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, but when you do the quality of the image will deteriorate significantly.
RAW files are created by your camera in a proprietary format, unique to each camera manufacturer. They can even be unique to the specific camera model you are using. These files are compressed by using a lossyless system. This means that little or no information is lost during the act of compression. So, when you shoot a RAW format file, there will be no in-camera processing. There will be no sharpening, no color balance applied, no white balance: the camera has made none of those decisions for you as it does when it generates a JPG file. As I said earlier, what you have in a RAW file is essentially the digital camera's equivalent of a 'negative.' No, there is no reversal of the image. What you have is just an entirely complete original.
And what does all this mean to us? Well, when you work on a RAW file in Photoshop you are working with a much higher quality original than you would if it were a JPG file. You will also have greater control, which means more creativity, when you make your adjustments, corrections and manipulations, and you will not significantly degrade the quality of resulting image. The first time it will be compressed is when you save it as a JPG file, or whatever other file format you choose (such as a TIF).
RAW file formats are unique so we need to use a special program to process them. All digital camera manufacturers provide special software for processing their own RAW files. Often these programs come free with the camera. The best programs for dealing with these files, though, are offered as plug-ins for such industry standards as Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
Another advantage of using the RAW file is that, other than deleting it, you can’t corrupt it. You must save the altered image as either a JPG file or in some other format. Be warned though: always copy your RAW files to CDs or DVDs for archiving. Then, as new and more improved processing software becomes available, you will always have them on hand whenever you feel the need to work on them again.

UPDATE FOR : Digital Camera Memory
Before a person buys a camera, its memory capabilities need to be fully understood as there are many different types - plus we need to know how much memory is needed and which is best for that particular camera. Digital camera memory is extremely essential, yet overlooked the majority of the time when consumers are making their purchase.
The most common form of such memory is a memory card. Each memory card has a fixed capacity and can store a certain number of pixels. After that, the memory card needs to be cleaned -- that is the photographer needs to delete the images to create space to shoot new photographs. The camera's memory is considered its key component, as it works for a temporary receptacle of photographs that are taken from a camera.
When the camera is first purchased, it comes with extremely low capacity memory cards, so right away one or two larger capacity cards need to be purchased. After the shoot, the photographer can then transfer or download the pictures into a computer or laptop, and delete the pictures from the camera's memory. The memory can then be used to store fresh photographs, which is a useful and convenient feature of the memory card, making it very valuable to all levels of photographers.
There is not a 'fixed amount' of images or photographs that can be put on any of the memory cards - many things will influence that number, such as different file types, the amount of compression used, and basically what the image is about. Probably the best thing to do would be to check on the manufacturer's site for information on the card for reference points and tips.
Some photographers suggest one or two 256 megabyte compact cards if the camera is a 3-5 megapixel compact digital camera. Of course, if the shoots are of high resolution TIFF or RAW files, the cards should be 512 megabyte or even one gigabyte card.
However, it becomes necessary to use higher capacity memory cards as the mega pixel count (resolution) of the camera increases. Some of the small size cards have a memory capacity of 64MB, and are not suitable enough to save very many high resolution pictures. To shoot such pictures, photographers need to use memory cards of 1 GB capacity or more.
If anyone has worked around computers or cameras much, the fact any file can be corrupted, lost, or stolen, should come to no surprise. The memory cards for the cameras are most certainly no different, so always do a backup or two on other cards during the shoot. The valuable data of the photographs would make this an important step as compared to losing them entirely.
The type of digital camera and the number of stored pictures that it can handle, has a lot to do with each other. Depending on the type of digital camera desired and its number of pictures to be stored, the digital camera memory can be available in many different shapes and configurations - memory cards are entirely dependent on the requirements of the digital camera.
For example, a compact flash type 1 digital camera memory needs to be used for a camera using compact flash type 1. For rugged and extremely physical work, the small and low cost Flash Digital Camera memory is the most suitable. Most of the memory cards come in sizes 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB capacity.
Photographers can optimize the use of memory cards by using the JPEG format to store photographs, as they take less space but are not as versatile as RAW formats are, which take up more space. Also, this may allow them to save more photographs, also leading to a loss of picture quality.
To be on the safer side, one should buy one 256 MB or two 128MB memory cards. This probably will provide enough memory space to meet the photo shoot requirements. But more is always best - especially when we are purchasing memory cards.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Exchange
Digital cameras cost anywhere from tens to thousands of dollars, with all of them having excellent components and will be a good one. What it boils down to is what is it a person wants, and what eventually will suit their needs. The new word on the block is 'prosumer' cameras - referring to cameras and their equipment focused on mainly advanced amateurs, a very inelegant word but getting the point across.
According to unbiased consumer reports, the leading brands about price, quality, and guarantees are Canon, Fujifilm, HP, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony - with other brands coming from consumer-electronics, computer, traditional film, and film companies.
To avoid being stuck with this, recognize there is no such thing as a perfect camera. What is perfect is not what is the 'top pick' but one that is the absolute most suitable one of all of them - for me - not the majority of the consumers. Choosing a digital camera from lists from the random choices of reviewers and camera critics is not the way to go, believe me, as they do not take a person's needs into account with the most updated information available. Each camera comes with its own individual features like image resolution, storage capacity, lens power etc. So, what should the buyer look for in the camera?
The first step is thinking about what is needed and wanted. Look at various specifications - and recognize they are not always straightforward facts for all the cameras at once. An example is the number of pixels the sensor records on the cameras. We assume that a 5 Mp camera will give higher quality results than a 3 Mp, but this may not be true.
Questions need to be asked and looked in their entirety, not just one at a time. Some of these questions are: (1) what type of camera user am I?; (2) how important is camera size, megapixels, and finished picture size to me?; (3) what are the lens options to me?; (4) what are my memory choices, and how much do I need?; and (5) is money an issue, and how much can I pay or should I pay? A digital camera should last for about two or three years before upgrading; I need to look at the camera and how long it has lasted its present owners.
Many factors need to be considered when a buying a digital camera. Look at the online information of digital camera web sites and suitable models of what you want. Then go to your local camera store and handle the actual camera. Get a feel of it, and if it fits comfortably in your hands. Look at its build, its quality, and what it accessories it has.
Talk to the camera professionals that are working there, or even people you know who actually owns one. Look at some of the reviews of the camera you want; do not decide to purchase based on their reviews - only how they feel AFTER they have purchased it. What problems have they had? Would they buy another one? What guarantees does it have, and do they honor it? What is their return time on answering questions or repair work?
Resolution is another major requirement - I need to ask myself how much flexibility would I need to enlarge my images? Are 4x6 or 8x10 pictures what I want - if so, I need to choose the camera accordingly, as the quality of the camera is directly proportional to the resolution of its images. For 4x6 photographs, the 4 or 5 MP (megapixels) is adequate, yet can still do the 8x10 photographs without a lot of image distortion; any enlargements would require a 6 to 8 MP camera.
The 3 megapixels camera outputs images that are anywhere from 1 to 2 MB in size while a 7 MP camera outputs images that are 4 to 5 MB in size. A gentle rule of thumb is if I was a professional photographer then I would go for high pixel cameras; if I was a beginners I can look at low or mid-end cameras.
None of us want to think about our camera malfunctioning or breaking down entirely before we ever purchase one for any length of time, but it can and probably will happen at some time. If this does happen, make sure the camera's manufacturer will guarantee this, and for how long after the purchase? If they do, they will exchange the new camera for the broken one if requested, and then pass the defective camera onto there servicing department. It will be fixed and sent to the outlet warehouse, completely functional.
Many deals for consumers can be found this way, at a newer and lower price for a fully functional and almost new camera. For amateurs and novice users, restored products such as these are popular for a lower price, and still has a warranty that is slightly limited.

UPDATE FOR : Ccd Camera
The digital cameras megapixels madness is very similar to the personal computer Mhz madness back in the 90s. The number of pixels a camera uses to produce a digital photo is just one element in determining the photo quality. Another important element that is usually forgotten is the sensor size. Here is why.
Digital cameras use an electronic sensor (also known as a CCD) in order to capture a digital photo. This sensor replaces the old film rolls used by traditional cameras. The electronic sensor is built from small light sensors also known as pixels. When you take a photo the camera opens the shutter for a certain amount of time. During that time light hits each individual pixel. The amount of light that hits each pixel determines its intensity (also known as the pixel value). A digital photo is comprised of many pixels each with its own pixel value.
There is a direct relationship between the size of the CCD the digital camera uses, the number of megapixels it supports and the size of each pixel. For a fixed CCD size the more pixels the CCD supports the smaller each pixel is. On the other hand for a CCD with a fixed number of pixels, the larger the CCD the bigger each pixel is.
So why should you care about the pixel size? There are many reasons to care about the pixel size as it plays an important role in the overall quality of your digital photos. One reason that is very easy to understand is sensitivity to light. Assume that you are taking a photo with the shutter opened for a fixed amount of time. During that time light hits each pixel. The larger a pixel is the more light energy that it accumulates during that period of time. The result is that with larger pixels you could take photos in darker scenarios than with smaller pixels. Also – with larger pixels the amount of noise in each pixel value is reduced.
For example if you have two digital cameras both having the same number of pixels but one is using a larger CCD sensor – the camera with the larger CCD will be able to take digital photos that are sharper and with less noise. It will also be able to take digital photos in scenes that are too dark for the other camera. Higher light sensitivity also allows more flexibility with both shutter speed and aperture settings.
High end cameras like digital SLR use larger CCD than point and shoot digital pocket cameras. Why is that? The main reason is simple: cost. It costs more to manufacture a larger CCD (for reasons such as yield and other specific manufacturing processes issues). The CCD size also influences other optical attributes of the camera – for example the aperture needed in a specific scene changes as the CCD size changes. The depth of field is directly influenced by such aperture changes.
In conclusion, when buying a digital camera always remember not to get fixated on the number of pixels. Although this number is important it is not a standalone feature. If you plan to take digital photos in extreme conditions, if you do care about depth of field, aperture settings, shutter speeds and light sensitivity than you should also check the size of the CDD the camera uses among other optical parameters of the camera.

UPDATE FOR : Camera Flash
Professional photographers get paid for results. They simply have to control every aspect of a photograph to make it as saleable as possible.
Below we’ll show you one of the pros’s biggest secrets - using flash to control outdoor pictures.
Most compact digital camera owners stick their cameras on ‘Auto Flash’ and leave it there. Their owners manual indicates that set to auto flash the camera will decide if the scene needs extra light and if so, it will fire the flash. Sounds good because it puts everything on automatic and you don’t need to worry about it.
Here’s proof why you’ll want to take your camera off ‘Auto Flash’ and set it to ‘Flash On.’
Note - This article is intended for beginners and people who simple want to learn how to produce predictable outdoor portraits using their compact digital camera flash.
There is a more sophisticated technique for controlling light outdoors with flash and it is called ‘fill flash.’ This article does not cover fill flash.
Here’s why Professional photographers use this technique and why you should too!
The reason your compact digital camera flash works so well in sunlight is that it compress the ratio of the background brightness to the foreground mid-tones and shadows. That more limited dynamic range allows the camera to capture details in both, in other words, your pictures will ok better.
Flash On!
Now this may seem a little odd but the next time you’re taking pictures of people, pets or objects outdoors in the sun or in the shade it REALLY pays off if you’ll set your camera to ‘Flash On’ so the flash fires on every shot regardless of the scenes light level.
Setting your camera’s flash - Most compact digital cameras have a button that looks like a lightning bolt. This is the button you will push to get the effects discussed in this article.
Professional photographers know that if they are shooting an outdoor function like a wedding reception or taking a portrait in the park they will use flash to improve the quality of the picture. In professional photography it can make the difference between a regular photo and a $money$ shot.
You can do the same thing with your compact digital camera!
True, your camera’s flash is probably not very powerful but the good news is that what might be a disadvantage indoors is actually an advantage when you use it outdoors.
Yes, you will use more battery power using this technique but once you see the results you’ll just carry more batteries because the results are worth the effort.

While it’s not a bad photo it does have some pretty deep shadows.
Here’s the second photo taken with the camera set to ‘Flash On.’ Meaning the camera’s flash will fire every time a picture is taken.

Instant improvement!
Do you see the difference between the two?
In the second photo shadows are gone and notice how the background color has deepened. While neither one would classify as artsy photos I can guarantee you she will like the second picture better than the first.
Bonus Secret - Popping
Sometimes you want your subject to ‘pop‘ out of the background. In the photos below I shot in one of the toughest situations that you can throw at a digital camera, straight into the sun. In this situation your camera sensor goes into overtime trying to figure out how to properly expose the scene. In the first picture you can see the how the camera sensor decided to expose the scene.
Note how it tried to average everything and in doing so gave me a photos with rather washed out colors.
See results at our site...
In this second picture I turned the camera flash to ‘Flash On’ not ‘Flash Auto’ to make sure the flash would fire. I didn’t want the camera sensor thinking it had enough light and not fire the flash. In essence I forced the camera to take the kind of picture I wanted and took away any possibility of the camera ‘interpreting’ the scene.
The results are self evident.
See results at our site...
So here’s your homework.
Drag out your digital camera owners manual and learn how to set your camera from ‘Auto Flash’ to ‘Flash On.’ Your outdoor people pictures will have an instant improvement!
Note: Remember to turn it back to ‘Auto Flash’ for regular use.

The Portable Camera for Sony PlayStation has been the topic of a whole lot of attention but very little info in the long way of its release. So here is some info about PSP camera.
UPDATE FOR : Game Camera
The Portable Camera for Sony PlayStation has been the topic of a whole lot of attention but very little info in the long way of its release. So here is some info about PSP camera.
If you are already familiar with the Wii photo mode, for sure you will recognize a lot of that design in this PSP camera perception for photo/video management.
The 1.3 mega pixel camera's software let you enjoy the functions of a robust photo viewer and even a photo editor. Press a button and you can view all of your photos in a slide show, complete with a diversity of effects.
You can have your series of sequences play back in black-and-white or reverse, amongst a series of assigned or randomly-chosen effects.
The editing software for PSP camera also let you make your pictures and videos more attractive, transmitting some of the effects detailed above as well as adding new abilities.
If you wish to put funny glasses and a mustache on a PSP for example, go and do it. For videos, you can put names and limitations around clips (There are a total of 72 different modifications you can make to your media with the software, including background music playback. Videos can be taken at full PSP res (480x272) at 30 fps for up to 15 seconds; photos can be taken at either 480x272 or 640x480. The camera costs about 5000 yen, which is approximately $50.
Using the PSP Camera is rather easy. The camera can spin 180 degrees, so you can either face the camera from the PSP screen either back at yourself or at your subject, or you can wind it around and use a more traditional view with the PSP's screen acting as your big viewfinder.
The camera has a digital zoom function, which isn't so ideal in execution because it jumps in steps of zoom rather than easily zooming through various levels. This type of camera does not have the same kinds of problems of time-delay in revive rate as the E3 2006 demo version of the PSP camera did, so that hopefully will not be an concern.
In previous announcements, indications seemed to be that the PSP Camera would snap pictures and videos directly to your Memory Card, just as standard media for the PSP to handle and trade, but the TGS build created nervousness for how Sony really intends to handle the feature.
The videos can actually be 'transmitted' to AVI for playback on a PC, according to recent information, but how the video is exchanged and why AVI (when modern PCs can use PSP's MPEG4 formats just fine, assuming this shoots in that format) is still unknown.
Also discomforting was that there was a demonstration of this new camera and on demonstration on hand of the PSP camera there was no smart Eye Toy Portable to show it off. No Game Face or in-game photo feature to recognize your online log-in in if the game might support such a feature. No games of any kind using the PSP camera.
There wasn’t shown any online photo/video operations in the function, or anything else for the use of this new accessory. No PS3 implementation was detailed either. All you could do here was take pictures and mess around.
Game Camera
The PSP camera was first announced at the E3 in Japan in March of 2006, where it also made its first public demo behind protective glass. The camera will don the name of Chotto Shot. Physically it is a small and seemingly basic camera lens about the size of the bottom half of your thumb that attaches to the top of the PSP system just above the screen.
UPDATE FOR : Psp Camera
Although Sony only released its PSP (PlayStation Portable) in March of 2005, it has been updated with new accessories on almost a daily basis. The PSP is a small handheld device weighing just over half a pound, but packs the fullest punch for the audio-video enthusiast. Its capabilities include playing back music, movies, television shows, other saved or downloaded video clips, wireless Internet connection, and its primary purpose: video games in a portable system.
All this is available to users anytime of day or night and virtually anywhere. The most recent release accessory announced by Sony is the PSP camera. This comes as a joy to PSP users on the go all around the world looking to complete their micro entertainment center with the ability to not only view picture and videos, but actually take their own pictures and videos with their PSP.
As if a camera attachment to the PSP would not be enough to complete this compact media center, the quick shot camera will also have a GPS attachment available. The camera is capable of delivering 1.3 megapixel image quality for the pictures as well as the video clips it captures.
Also included with the camera's features is its digital zoom ability, allowing the user to bring the object of their photos closer than they can reach. A mono microphone will be included with this camera attachment to round out the extraordinary value of this extremely tiny little package. The microphone will capture the sounds to accompany video filming. And to protect your new addition, a protective carrying case is available. It's incredible to think that in a handheld device as small as the PSP, you can have the ability to play countless games, connect to the Internet, view pictures, listen to music, watch movies and other videos, and now take pictures and movies.
The PSP camera and GPS attachment officially went on sale in Japan in December of 2006. The price tag was equivalent to a miniscule $50 U.S. for this incredible little bundle. As of March of 2007, Sony has not committed to a release date for the PSP camera in the United States. For this outstanding value, the release could not be soon enough.
With the constant upgrading of the PSP and the accessories available, Sony has truly created a portable handheld device capable of managing all things media. With the upcoming addition of the PSP camera to the line up of accessories, the capabilities extend as far as the galaxy reaches. The PSP system has taken entertainment, gaming, and media to a whole new world.

UPDATE FOR : Red Light Camera
Every year in the United States, more than 800 people are killed and more than 200,000 injured in accidents involving red light running. Of these casualties, many are passengers in other vehicles or are hapless pedestrians. Accidents engendered by red light running reach astonishing proportions, too, amounting to more than $150 billion in medical and emergency bills, productivity loss, and property destruction.
With such staggering figures, what have many cities opted to do? They set up photo enforcement.
How Photo Enforcement Works
Photo enforcement, while relatively new in the United States, has been in use in Europe and Australia for two decades. This is how it works. Cameras, positioned on a pole about 12 feet high and roughly 80 feet behind the intersection, are connected to wire sensors. These sensors are placed into cuts in the roadway. It is through these wires that electricity travels, creating an electromagnetic field as it does so. Vehicles running over the wire create an interference in the electromagnetic field, thereby triggering the camera.
How do cameras determine which cars and drivers to take pictures of? Another network of wires is set up a few feet away from cameras. These determine the speed of the vehicle crossing the red light. Because these cameras have viewfinders that cover entire intersections, two photos are taken once the sensors are triggered. The first photo shows the vehicle before it enters the intersection. The second shows the vehicle in the intersection. In both photographs, the red light is visible.
Image Capture: During and After
Automated speed enforcement operate on pre-determined speed thresholds, 11 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, for example. Thus, it only captures images of vehicles moving at or exceeding the established speed threshold. When violations occur, the system captures not only the images of the vehicle and the driver, but also the vehicle's speed data. These are then sent to authorized personnel who review the vehicle's registration information. The resulting citations are sent to the vehicle's registered owner through the mail.
Photo Enforcement: Advantages
Perhaps the biggest advantage of photo enforcement is that it is the solution to limited enforcement resources. After all, there are too few traffic cops and simply too many reckless drivers. Additionally, it provides quick physical documentation of the offense and the offender, thereby minimizing red light running and its resulting accidents. Photo enforcement is said to have a behavior modification effect on drivers. Once drivers see red light cameras, they slow down and drive more carefully.
Photo Enforcement: Disadvantages
Photo enforcement, however, is not without its flaws. In fact, its most vehement detractors are drivers who claim that photo enforcement isn't a tool for safety, but for moneymaking. For drivers, the system's worst flaw is that it does not make distinctions between vehicle owner and driver. It doesn't matter who sped through a red light; the vehicle's owner will get the citation. Another disadvantage is the time lag between infractions and citations. A third comes in the form of prohibitive infrastructure and installment costs. In relation to this, the difficulty in selecting intersections and equipment suppliers may be a big source of headache, too. The final and the biggest drawback to photo enforcement, however, is that it is always coupled with legislative issues. In some states, even, photo enforcement has been declared illegal.
Without public and political support, photo enforcement will never even see the green light in other American states. Clearly, the system has a long way to go before it becomes the unanimously accepted solution to the problem of red light running.

Investing in a home security camera is the latest trend for families, voyeurs, and everything in-between.
UPDATE FOR : Infrared Camera
Home security camera systems can be a good way to monitor your surroundings, however, the options available on a home security camera can be frustrating to sift through in order to find the best system for your needs. People have different reasons for wanting a home security camera in place.
There are those that find a security system necessary in order to be a more participating entrepreneur, while others feel like they need the benefit of a home security camera. Whatever your reasons, all security systems can be costly, so make sure to sit down and assess your budget before investing in camera for personal or professional use.
The first kind of home security camera is known as a dome camera. Obviously, this camera comes in the shape of a dome and it fits conveniently on the ceiling of your home or business. You will find the dome cameras often times in casinos where they are used to monitor the tables. You will also find home security at its most fashionable with the dome lens.
There are dome cameras that can be placed outside, however, you must use a special armor type in order to do this kind of mounting. Sony carries two different types of dome security cameras and they are a leader in the industry. You can choose from the Verifocal dome camera, which has the highest resolution (420 lines) and an adjustable lens.
You can also purchase Sony's Infrared Armor dome camera, which acts as a hidden camera and is the most durable of all of the dome cameras. Dome cameras are the most popular security cameras because they are impossible to detect which angle they are viewing unless you are at close range. They come in black or white and they all have adjustable lenses.
The second type of home security camera is the bullet camera. The lens is long and resembles a rifle, which is where the camera finds its name. Bullet cameras are easily visible and can be mounted to a wall or a ceiling. They use a 12V DC voltage, and the power cable should be included when the camera is purchased. Most of these cameras will film in color and then change their resolutions to black and white when the light levels are lower.
The resolution during the day is much better with the bullet security systems, but if you have an alternate form of lighting, like a streetlight, people can sometimes be seen from up to 70 feet away. The most popular brand of bullet security cameras is the SPECO CVC-6805SX, which is color and has a fixed lens of 4mm.
The other home security camera system that is popular in order to secure your business or home is the infrared cameras. These cameras are good if you need to see mainly at night. A main issue with the infrared camera is that it does not do well for residential security. The infrared camera has lights built around the lens in order to make the image look like it was filmed during the day.
Do not confuse the infrared cameras with night vision cameras because the main difference between the two is that the night vision cameras do not have the built in lighting. The most cost efficient infrared security camera is made by Digital Peripheral Solutions and it is the QSVC422 CCD color outdoor camera, which is $137 to $157 depending on where you purchase your system.
People need to feel they have a secure home for different reasons and their measures of security, whether it is a home security camera or one that just sits outside of their business, will vary. However, some people feel the need to have the security of a camera simply because they cannot be in two places at once. If someone is approaching a building and spots a security camera they are less likely to want to take the chance of getting caught, and the possibility that a camera could save your home or business from being violated is worth any possibility of damage.
If you research the options with security camera systems, you will find home security, as well as commercial security, will come in many different prices, models, and capabilities to pick and choose what you want.

More often than not, pinhole cameras are made from recycled materials (like oatmeal boxes). There are several steps that are involved with the construction, but most of the components are already in many homes, making pinhole cameras and inexpensive and exciting way to delve into the world of photography.
UPDATE FOR : Pinhole Camera
A pinhole camera is a fun way to spark a child’s interest in photography without a large investment in equipment. Not only will the child be able to take photos, but he will be able to make his own camera.
There are numerous examples of plans for making a pinhole camera, many of which are available for free downloading over the internet. The public library is also a great source of information on how to use the camera and how to make it.
Some of the pinhole cameras are designed to take regular, cartridge style film. Other designs require a film sheet (which may not be easy to find). All of the film can be taken down to the local drug store or any store that offers film development services. For the real enthusiast, a home dark room could be put together in a small bathroom or closet where you could have more control over the development process.
The basic pinhole camera is one without any conventional glass lens. Instead, the picture is taken through a very tiny hole in thin material that focuses all the light on one single point. Because of the nature of the way the picture is taken, the pinhole cameras require a longer exposure time of anywhere from 5 seconds to several hours (some can even require days of exposure).
It is possible to make take a damaged 35mm camera and make it into a pinhole camera. It requires the removal of the lens assembly with a pinhole assembly. This allows for the use of the film wind.
More often than not, pinhole cameras are made from recycled materials (like oatmeal boxes). There are several steps that are involved with the construction, but most of the components are already in many homes, making pinhole cameras and inexpensive and exciting way to delve into the world of photography.

UPDATE FOR : Buy Camera Online
The great international market bazaar known as the Internet has rapidly made inroads on the territory of traditional brick and mortar retailers, and has in fact become the preferred shopping venue for millions of consumers. The Internet allows people to shop a their convenience from the comfort of their homes without spending money on gas and time fighting traffic.
Internet shopping also allows consumers to comparison shop online, reviewing the features of different items and finding the best prices. While there are, of course, things that should not be purchased online like perishable foods or live animals, it would be very hard to run a search for a non-perishable item an not find someone, somewhere ., who is selling it on their website.
Concerns About Shopping Online
Electronic items are especially in demand for online purchase, and many thousands of people have bought or considered buying a digital camera online. While the chances of getting scammed when purchasing a high-end item like a digital camera online do exist, they are probably greater than the chances of being cheated by a regular store or by purchasing a camera through the classifieds.
Internet retailers, like traditional ones, live and die with their customer base, and if they cannot get repeat business, will be doomed. Being conned when you purchase you digital camera online guarantees you will not be a return customer, and also guarantees bad publicity for the seller.
People buy digital cameras for different reasons; environmentally conscious consumers like them because there are no polluting chemicals involved in the production of digital photos. Others like them because they allow instant viewing of a photograph, and because there are digital camera software photos which can turn even the most amateur photographers into a budding Ansel Adams.
If you’re considering buying a digital camera online, you can feel good both about doing you small part to protect the environment, and about owning a technology which appears to be the future of amateur photography. While your digital camera online purchase may not get you the superlative quality photographs that professional photographers create with traditional cameras and darkrooms, it will get you started, and the digital camera technology is improving by leaps and bounds.
What To Look For In A Digital Camera
When shopping for your digital camera on line, research its storage capacity and pixilation; the greater its pixelation number, the better the sharpness and detailing of your photos will be. But the price you pay for a digital camera online will increase as its pixelation does.
The number of photos your digital camera can store is determined by its storage capacity; however, you can always purchase extra storage capacity by getting an additional flash card, just like you can buy extra memory for your personal computer. The very first digital cameras could hold up to thirty photos, making them competitive with 36-picture rolls of 35mm photographic film.
Today, however, even digital cameras priced in the medium range will store a hundred of more photographs. Once you’ve settled on ho much pixilation and storage capacity you need, and found the camera website offering it at the best price, you should be ready to buy your digital camera online!

What is digital camera software, and why do you need it?
Well, if you have a digital camera you are probably someone for whom the rush of instantly seeing the results of your pointing and snapping is the best part of being a photographer. So you’ll love digital camera software, because it is available online, often for free, and can be up and running on your personal computer as fast as you Internet connection can stream it to you.
Types Of Digital Camera Software
What sort of digital camera software is available? Software that will let you turn your digital photos into slide shows viewable on your, or someone else’s computer, with the slides changing at intervals of your choosing. You can put together a slide presentation on any topic for any kind of gathering, suitable for family viewing and enjoyment, school or professional projects, of even to be copied to CDs as unique gifts. How’s that for fun?
Not impressed and not a fan of slide shows? The how about digital camera software which will let you play the artist, taking your digital photos and altering them to your heart’s content? If the focus of your photo is not centered, you can move it; if the background is too distracting you can simplify it; if you are simply tired of looking at an object but like the view behind it, obliterate away! Digital camera software makes you the ruler of your own photographic universe!
You can change the colors of a photo to whatever looks best with your d?cor; you can add sparkle to water or deepen the shadows to add mystery; you can add effects to make the pictures you too in the morning appear to have aged a hundred years by the afternoon. You can experiment with digital camera software to your heart’s content, and as long as you don’t save your changes, you can get your original photograph back and begin again.
You can take a group photo and, using digital camera software, eliminate all the strangers while enlarging the images of your friends or family members. You can clean up any annoying telephone wires or billboards ruining your otherwise magnificent photographic landscapes.
Photo Recovery Software
Some digital camera software will allow you to impose images from your photographs over other backgrounds so that you can make a record of your fantasy life. Other digital camera software is not designed for altering your photos; it will instead allow you to recover photos which have been deleted from your media card. There is digital camera software which will let you display your photos, in the form of a revolving or bouncing cube with a different picture on each face. You can even add music to the display if you like.
Digital camera software, in other words, will let express your artistic side in as many ways as your imagination permits. Or it will let you package and present your photos to others, or help you recover precious photographs which you thought were gone for good. And it will do almost all of these things with no cost to you!

Maybe you're a collector of miniatures; maybe you're a spy. Or maybe you're just someone who would like a camera which you can have on your person for those moments which beg to be permanently recorded, but don't want one which interferes with your activities in any way.
UPDATE FOR : Keychain Digital Camera
Maybe you’re a collector of miniatures; maybe you’re a spy. Or maybe you’re just someone who would like a camera which you can have on your person for those moments which beg to be permanently recorded, but don’t want one which interferes with your activities in any way. Whatever your reasons may be, you’ve decided that you need to buy the world’s smallest digital camera.
Small, even very small, digital cameras abound. And with the slick advertising typical of all entrepreneurs, many camera makers have found ways to promote their efforts as the “smallest digital camera in the world”, or the slightly less absolute “smallest digital camera in its class.” Is there a way to determine the smallest digital camera?
Well, you can try an Internet search. Candidates for the title of the smallest digital camera are the Philips keychain digital camera, which measures 2' x .75' x 1.5' . It weights slightly over six and a half ounces, and retails for $19.95. Need I add, “You get what you pay for?”
But the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC U-20, at 3.38 “ x 1.63 “ x. 1.19 “, while it may tower over the Philips keychain digital camera, is actually, in terms of weight, a smaller digital camera. It tips the (diet) scales at a minuscule four ounces.
The Sony Qualia
Ridiculous, you say? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet, and the Sony Qualia 016 is a camera the substance of which, at about 1.7 ounces, is as close to nothin’ as the smallest digital camera is likely to become and still be a camera. The Qualia 016 managed to pack two megapixels into a box 2.7” x 0.9” x 0.7”. That is about the size of a tube of lipstick. When introduced in 2004, the Qualia 016 retailed at $4000. A keychain digital camera it definitely is not.
What the ads for the Sony Qualia failed to mention is that its accessories were not to scale, and its flash attachment was nearly the size of the Qualia itself. Having accessories of this size may be a logistic necessity, but rather defeats the point of having the world’s smallest digital camera.
Small Digital Camera Drawbacks
And any one of the so-called smallest digitals cameras will pose a challenge to those with even normally sized fingers. All of them require very careful finger placement to make sure there is no overlapping going on when the various buttons are being pressed.
As with any digital camera, smallest digital camera or not, you need to check the pixelation and battery life of your tiny camera purchase. You don’t want to be spending a fortune on batteries and only getting blurry tiny photo after blurry tiny photo in return.

After all, what's better than to see each other while chatting or instant messaging, and without leaving your home and in real-time?
UPDATE FOR : Live Camera
Live webcam chat, also known as live video chat, or video conferencing, is the hip thing on the dating and social networking scene right now. After all, what's better than to see each other while chatting or instant messaging, and without leaving your home and in real-time?
This article explains how to webcam chat on internet, and what you need to get started.
Basically, you can webcam chat in two ways:
1) by audio or,
2) by text. When you video chat by audio, your can see and hear each other. By text, you type in the messages, but you still can see each other on your computer screens.
Before getting started in live webcam chatting there are a few things you will need. These are:
1. A computer with a later version Windows such as XP or Vista. Older versions may not support this relatively new form of communication.
2. A high speed internet connection (think DSL, broadband, cable, T1, Fiber Optics etc.): A dial-up connection is not be practical due to lugging issues.
3. Webcam: This is a web camera, popularly known as a webcam or cam for short. Some computers already come with an in-built webcam. Webcams are relatively inexpensive.
4. Software: Your webcam will typically come with a disk that installs the necessary software in your computer. This is as easy as plugging the disk into your CD drive and following the instructions. The software interprets and uploads images to be accessed through the Internet.
5. A web server: This is also referred to as a webcam chat room. It is, basically, a host site that facilitates the communication. The server must be robust enough to handle the video load which can easily cause an ordinary server to crush.
Of the above, perhaps the most difficult to decide on is the server. Typically, you and your chat friend(s) must all use the same company. The important thing here is to know why you want to chat. Do you simply want to connect with friends or relatives? Do you want to find a date? Or do your interests lean toward the risqu??
If you just want to chat with friends or relatives, then you can use one of the popular Internet services (Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, etc.) or a social networking site (MySpace.com, for example).
For those whose purpose is dating and/or erotic adult encounters, services do exist that specialize in adult webcam dating. Most adult webcam chat websites do allow free basic membership.
Whatever your purpose for webcam chatting, you should sign up with a reputable company. Why?
Well, some video chat companies have been known to install Trojan horses into an unsuspecting person’s computer. Trojan horse software can activate your webcam without your knowledge, potentially catching you in a compromising situation - and broadcasting it worldwide!

If you need a security system for your home or office but do not have the budget for a comprehensive system right now, you can consider using USB security camera as an alternative. Learn more about what are the pros and cons of using USB security camera...
UPDATE FOR : Usb Camera
Aside from the classic CCTV cameras and IP cameras, there is another cheaper alternative which is perfect for a home or a small business security system : USB security camera. Although most usb cameras are quite fast and reliable, the quality of the images are not very good as these cameras are often used as a webcam. But if the quality of the images is not of importance, then you can easily set up a useful and cheap security system using this USB cameras.
Advantages When You Use USB Cameras
One of the most obvious advantage is that the USB camera is a common hardware tool that most people already have. Most people already possessed them because they often use the usb cameras with Yahoo Messenger or NetMeeting types of applications to chat online with friends and family. Thus you can easily use that same usb camera with a specialized surveillance software and you are good to go! No need to get any additional hardware. Furthermore, you can also find a number of nice software packages for free, like Zoneminder. Such software usually have in built motion triggered video recording as well as nice security archive management.
So you don't already own a web cam? Not to worry! You can easily buy one at an affordable price starting from $10. Of course, such low priced web cams do not have high image quality but this may not be an important factor since you really need it just to monitor your home or office just to ensure everything is fine. But do note that even those more expensive usb cameras which often are of better resolution do not perform well under low light conditions.
Disadvantages When You Use USB Cameras
One of the most undesirable factor is the required cabling to the USB cameras. Since they can only work with USB cables, they are limited by the cable lengths which are often only a few meters long. Thus the USB camera need to be kept as close to the PC as possible. Another minus point is that your USB camera cannot work without the appropriate software installed on a PC compared to the regular CCTV or IP cameras which can work just by plugging them to a monitor or a VCR.
Basically, if you just need an entry point security system without the need of high quality images or video recordings, using USB camera coupled with a PC may just be the perfect cost effective solution for you!
